- ICS adjustment – ใช้ประกอบการพิจารณา Step-up หรือ Step-down การรักษา
- Exacerbation risk –
Key message:
“Don’t treat the FeNO number – interpret the patient.”
How to Interpret FeNO in Asthma
FeNO is more than just a number. The Thai Asthma Council and Association invites healthcare professionals to explore the practical interpretation of Fractional exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) — an important non-invasive biomarker reflecting Type 2 airway inflammation in asthma.
This infographic highlights 7 practical roles of FeNO in asthma care:
- Supporting the diagnosis of Type 2 asthma
- Identifying the asthma inflammatory phenotype
- Supporting ICS step-up or step-down decisions
- Assessing possible ICS adherence and inhaler technique issues
- Helping evaluate future exacerbation risk
- Supporting biologic selection in severe asthma
- Assessing inflammatory activity when considering asthma remission
Key message:
“Don’t treat the FeNO number – interpret the patient.”
FeNO should never be interpreted in isolation. Its greatest clinical value comes from integrating the result with symptoms, lung function, ICS exposure, adherence, inhaler technique, allergic comorbidities and the overall clinical context.
